Job Description :
s are covered daily for AM, Midday, PM route coverage as well as field trips and any after-hours transportation needs.
Utilizes trip planning software to schedule, dispatch, and bill for field and athletic trips.
Communicate with drivers regarding essential information such as student health concerns, routes, emergencies, and other information as appropriate.
Answer telephones and respond to inquiries and direct and/or transfer the caller to the appropriate person, take and relay messages accurately.
Maintain a calm demeanor while providing accurate verbal and written communications through two-way radio and telephone with bus drivers, mechanics, district staff and community during emergencies and non-emergency situations.
Assists in interviewing and hiring drivers as needed.
Directs maintenance of records of field trips and extracurricular transportation needs.
Receives bus trouble calls, coordinates replacement buses, equipment, and drivers to meet the need.
Briefs drivers on special requirements, road conditions, routing, and all out-of-the ordinary conditions.
Advises building officials of route changes, bus changes, late arrivals, departures, and other problems.
Provides information concerning routes, stops, schedules, loads, rules and regulations, and other facts which may be appropriate upon request from any interested person.
Work with district staff to ensure that special trip requests are accommodated to the best of our ability.
Drives buses as required to demonstrate or provide backup or relief in emergencies; performs routing duties as needed.
Assists in bus inspections.
Assist with response to emergency situations.
Recommends corrective actions for drivers as necessary; attends meetings with students, parents, and administrators.
Serves as member of the transportation team of the district; performs related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position as assigned.
Participate in meetings, in-service trainings, workshops, etc. as required for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information to perform the job functions.
Support drivers with student discipline on the bus; coordinates and maintains liaison with drivers, parents, students, and administrators.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

High school graduation or equivalent and four years of successful bus driver experience: supervisory experience preferred; or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that would provide the applicant with the desired knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the work.

Licensing and Certification

Valid Commercial Driver’s License with Washington State school bus driver’s endorsement.
Current Department of Transportation Medical Examiner’s Certificate
First aid and CPR certification.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of safety standards, laws, codes, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures relating to student transportation.
Knowledge of the district’s streets, highways, and boundaries.
Knowledge of effective supervisory principles and practices.
Ability to operate a two-way radio.
Ability to operate a computer and learn the operation of specific software programs.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with district staff, parents, and public.
Ability to observe, monitor, and evaluate employee performance.
Ability to maintain accurate records.
Ability to read and interpret road and street maps.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Skill in operating various models of school buses safely and effectively.
Skill in effective training techniques.
Skill in problem resolution.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Environment:

Office and road environment; requires visual concentration and precision; exposed to road and traffic hazards; occasionally required to be accessible during off-hours to respond to emergencies or evaluate road conditions.
Subject to frequent interruptions and extensive contact with staff, community members, and other members of the public.
Indoor and outdoor environment.

Physical demands:

Bending at the waist, kneeling, or crouching, and reaching to retrieve and maintain files and records.
Reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally.
Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate standard office equipment, computer keyboard, and other equipment necessary to complete the required duties.
Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person and on the telephone.
Visual ability to read, and to prepare/process documents and to monitor various services and personnel.
Sitting for extended periods.
Standing for extended periods.
Walking over rough or uneven surfaces.
Climbing, occasional use of stepladders.
Physical activity may be required, which could include moderate lifting.
