Job Description :
UAA General Support Services includes Seawolf Postal Express (Mailroom), Central Receiving, Surplus & Relocation, Recycling, Parking Services, and the Copy & Print Center. This position provides support as a member of the Mailroom/Central Receiving team, processing and delivering mail throughout campus and assisting in mailroom counter operations. May assist in other areas of GSS as needed and deemed appropriate.
Duties:
10Assist on an as-needed basis in other areas such as Copy Center, Central/Receiving, Bulk Mail, Bindery, Relocation Services, and Property/SurplusEssential
10Knowledge of US Postal regulations, FedEx, UPS, and DHL policies/procedures, proficiency with computers, operational knowledge of Pitney Bowes metered mail machines. Proper lifting techniques. Hazardous material handling, fork lift operation, pallet jack operation (manual & electric).Essential
5This job requires the ability to stand for long periods of time and lift heavy objects. The mailroom environment is often noisy, hectic, and demanding. Strict deadlines exist regardless of multiple distractions and interruptions. Mail Clerks are also required to assist in the training of new employees and student assistants.Essential
5Tracking and locating lost or delayed packages, particularly express shipments. Communicate with customer and vendor to research how package was shipped, obtain tracking number and use on-line service to find out where package was delivered and who signed for it.Essential
70Mail Room -Prepare outgoing mail with correct postage, including insured, certified, return receipt, international and overnight packages. Pickup University mail from Post Office and sign for Express and Certified packages. Sort incoming mail by department and name. Deliver campus mail to each department, including assisting with off- campus courier route. Assist campus customers to insure the most expedient, cost-effective service meets the needs of each particular customer and department. Use proper billing procedures in all areas of mail preparation, including business reply, postage due, metered mail, and express service to insure correct departments are debited for specific services provided.Essential
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Excellent customer service skills.
Strong interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to work well independently and as a member of a team.
Demonstrated ability to interpret and follow procedures and regulations.
General computer experience in a work environment.
Demonstrated attention to detail.
Preferred:
Working knowledge of USPS policy and regulations.
Working knowledge of FedEx and/or UPS policies and procedures.
Operational knowledge of metered mail machines.
Operational knowledge of relevant equipment: forklift, hand trucks, dolly, pallet jack.
TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:
Prior experience in customer-service field in a professional environment.
REQUIRED EDUCATION OR TRAINING:
High school diploma or equivalent. On the job training provided. Current Alaska Drivers License and ability to meet UA Safe Driver Criteria is mandatory.
This is a full-time, Grade 74, (minimum $15.23/hr) DOE, 12-month position complete with a competitive salary and UA employee benefits package.
