What you will be doing:
As the Grants Administrator 3 (GA 3) supervisor, you will lead the team through mentoring, collaboration, issuing grants that directly support communities throughout the state. In addition to supervising the unit and administering complex grants, you will help implement and develop departmental policies and procedures with an end goal to create efficiencies, eliminate redundant or unnecessary steps, and establish a unit with exceptional grant administration, staff collaboration, and concise processes.

Your role is critical as the grants that you and your team will be administering directly support the department’s mission. The grants office supports divisions with the solicitation of community services grant programs statewide and provides the day to day fiscal management and administration of awarded grants.

The GA3 is a team supervisor position that serves as a mentor to direct reports, assists in coordinating office efforts to support the department in its mission and takes on the more complex grant assignments. This is a fast paced and busy environment where we strive to complete the solicitation process by established deadlines in order to ensure grants are issued promptly to avoid a lapse in services. Work schedules are flexible as long as they fall within office hours.
The working environment you can expect:
The Grants office is located on the seventh floor of the State Office Building in downtown Juneau and is within walking distance of restaurants and grocery stores. The unit will relocate to the fifth floor of the Court Plaza Building, which will house the newly formed department, in the coming months. The Grants section currently employees sixteen individuals who are incredibly supportive, with teammates to offer support as you become familiar with our agency. In the coming months, the unit will consist of a team of two.
Who we are looking for:
A successful applicant should possess some or all of the following knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience.
Knowledge and experience reading, interpreting, and applying State and/or Federal regulations, grant-related laws or policy guidance documents
Skill in using a computerized accounting system, or State of Alaska accounting system (IRIS), and Microsoft Office applications including MS Word, Excel, and Outlook
Ability and experience leading a team, communicating expectations, resolving conflicts and evaluating performance
Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with a wide range of agency representatives and the general public
Organization skills such as time management, scheduling, prioritizing and multi-tasking

One year of journey level experience in grants administration, procurement, accounting, budget, or professional services contracts. This experience is met by service as a Grants Administrator 2, Procurement Specialist 2, Accountant 2, Administrative Manager 2, or Contracting Officer 2 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere. Special Note: Some positions may require procurement certification from the Department of Administration, Division of General Services. Some positions may require frequent travel to remote areas.
