Job Information
Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee. This is an executive position (no union affiliation) and serves at the pleasure of the Mayor of the Municipality of Anchorage.
Example of Duties
Under administrative direction of the Municipal Manager; plans, organizes, and directs the functions of the Merrill Field Airport and Birchwood Airport to meet service demands and revenue requirements. This position manages all financial issues including operations, and capital budgeting, expenditures and revenues, leasing of properties, grant and contract administration, airport safety, insurance, legal activities, scheduling of equipment and personnel, purchasing, snow removal, grounds maintenance, and public relations. Directs the daily operation and maintenance of the airport, and ensures that goals and objectives are met. Provides supervision for subordinate personnel. Ensures that airport programs and operations meet standards of safety in accordance with applicable FAA regulations. Directs airport land acquisition and management policies. Coordinates with State and Federal agencies on matters pertaining to air space, improvement projects, safety, and project financing issues. Formulates long and short term strategic plans for airport capital improvements. Develops methods to improve efficiency of airport operations.
Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences
High school diploma, GED or equivalent and twelve (12) years of experience in airport management including directing activities of a general aviation airport and providing general aviation services to the public. OR Associate’s degree in Aviation Administration, Aviation Management, Public Administration, Business Administration, Finance, Real Estate, or a closely related academic discipline and ten (10) years of experience in airport management including directing activities of a general aviation airport and providing general aviation services to the public. OR Bachelor’s degree in Aviation Administration, Aviation Management, Public Administration, Business Administration, Finance, Real Estate, or a closely related academic discipline and eight (8) years of experience in airport management including directing activities of a general aviation airport and providing general aviation services to the public. OR Master’s degree in Aviation Administration, Aviation Management, Public Administration, Business Administration, Finance, Real Estate, or a closely related academic discipline and six (6) years of experience in airport management including directing activities of a general aviation airport and providing general aviation services to the public. Individuals currently serving as a member in good standing in the National Guard or the organized military reserves who wish to be considered for interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D must attach proof of current service to the application. Proof of current service can be shown by submission of a statement of service which, at a minimum, shows full name, date of birth, Social Security Number, date service began, branch of service, rank, name of command providing the information, and unit of assignment. The statement of service must be on a form or letterhead of the individual’s command organization and show the name, signature, title and contact information for the signer providing the statement of service. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration. The Municipality of Anchorage is an employer of National Service.
