ELEMENTARY TEACHER

OLGC Parish School
Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish School (OLGC) located in Plymouth, MI is committed to the New Evangelization. Our vision is “To offer every person in our community a life-changing encounter with Jesus.” We are called to foster holiness and serve as a center of evangelization and discipleship for students, families, and faculty.
God is doing something new at OLGC Parish School in order to accomplish a bold mission: we exist to offer a life-changing encounter with Jesus and equip leaders to transform the culture. Due to recent retirements, as well as growth in student enrollment, we are recruiting new teachers to join our school family.
The successful candidates will be passionate about OLGC’s vision and thrive in a team environment. They will be enthusiastic leaders, with an expressed joy in the Lord whose servant’s heart is demonstrated as a lived faith in all endeavors within the OLGC school and parish. They will have a strong personal relationship with Jesus and deep love for His Church. Our new teachers will join our family being willing to do whatever it takes for God to accomplish His mission.
You can teach at any school, but at OLGC Parish School, God is molding our staff into a beautiful body of people so that His mission can be accomplished. We are fighting for the souls of the students, parents, and community we serve. It is our passionate desire to see every single person entrusted in our care spend eternity in Heaven.

QUALIFICATIONS:

All teachers in the Catholic Schools in the Archdiocese of Detroit shall be certified and/or approved for teaching by the Department of Education for the State of Michigan. All teachers are required to hold the appropriate endorsement for the subject(s) they are assigned to teach. All teachers who are catechist (teachers of religion) must be certified by the Department of Evangelization, Catechesis and Schools.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Instructional Strategies

Design and implement lesson plans that integrate Gospel values into the core curriculum.
Implement the Encounter, Grow, Witness model to teach religion standards, including sharing the Kerygma, using Kerygma 4 Kids.

Apply differentiated instruction and assessment that improves achievement for all learners in a learner-centered and collaborative environment.
Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods of instruction.
Implement research-based practices including differentiated instruction.
Consistently create a high level of active student engagement and student-led learning.
Plan and assign work to instructional aide(s) and volunteer(s).
Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process including iPads, CleverTouch boards and online instructional platforms, such as IXL.

Student Growth and Development

Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal teaching and assessment.

Use STAR testing data to target individual learning targets for students.
Empower students as leaders through The Leader in Me process.
Support students to set and monitor personal and academic goals.

Classroom Management

Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, spiritual, and emotional development of students.
Manage student behavior in accordance with the Code of Conduct, using a positive and proactive management system.
Create an environment of respect and rapport, rooted in faith.
Create a classroom mission statement aligned to our school mission, conduct regular class meetings, and teach the 7 Habits during school-wide leadership time.

Communication

Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, principals, colleagues, and community members.

Support parents as the primary catechists and educators for their children through relational ministry, resources, and tools.
Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly using the School Information System.

Professional Growth and Development

Collaborate with your assigned mentor teacher and other colleagues, in addition to following the New Teacher Guide to learn about school protocols.
Commit to continual improvement professionally and spiritually by participating in and seeking professional development opportunities to improve job-related skills and explore your faith journey.
Obtain an Advanced Catechist Certification in the Archdiocese of Detroit.

Other

Participate in and seek professional development opportunities to improve job-related skills.
Attend the New Teacher Orientation.
Commit to continual improvement professionally and spiritually.
Obtain an Advanced Catechist Certification in the Archdiocese of Detroit.

Participate in faculty, student, and parent offerings of Praise and Worship, morning Mass, prayer, and Adoration.
Strive to advance the Archdiocese of Detroit’s pastoral strategy as articulated in the Archbishop’s pastoral letter, Unleash the Gospel, and recent new vision for Catholic Schools.
Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required.

Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other document required.
Perform other duties as assigned.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Serve as a member of the staff Leader in Me Lighthouse Team, School Improvement Team, and/or Action Teams
Attend spiritual growth offerings including Alpha, Called and Gifted, and 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.
