Job Description :
Zingerman’s Roadhouse, a James Beard award-winning restaurant, is currently seeking a Catering and Events Manager! This position will work side-by-side with another Catering & Events Manager to manage all of our catering services and events.
The Roadhouse hosts onsite and offsite events – both private and public. Our C&E managers promote, sell, coordinate and implement all of these events. From working with FOH managers, to scheduling staff, to working with BOH chefs, to planning menus, the C&E managers work to provide amazing experiences for our guests. This position manages the Catering & Events operations of the Roadhouse from guest inquiries to delivery of the product/service.

Full-Time, Salaried, 45-50+ hours/week, evenings & weekends a must
Compensation: $46,000-$50,000 annual salary, based on experience


Provides excellent leadership to all staff at the Roadhouse
Attends and participates as a member of the Roadhouse leadership team
Attends weekly catering meeting, weekly managers meeting, weekly all-staff meeting, weekly RH FOH managers meeting and bi-annual event staff meetings.
Participates in the Zingerman’s Annual Planning Process for Roadhouse operations
Maintains a professional image at all times through actions and appearance
Conducts all business in accordance with Zingerman’s Guiding Principles and Mission
Handles customer complaints and works to resolve issues
Schedules and facilities training for event staff (we call it Event BootCamp)
Arrives on time for all schedule shifts at multiple locations (Roadhouse, Cornman Farms and other catering venues)
Assists with management of Roadhouse Dining Room functions and staff as needed
Provides informal coaching, conducts Performance Reviews, and handles performance management issues as needed


Works with prospective and current customers by providing information, price quotes, menu options, product tastings, bookings and service agreements.
Proactively seeks out potential guests and follows through to booking.
Clearly documents and communicates guests requests for menu and service needs.
Promotes and organizes all onsite public events – including facilitation of presenters and travel accommodations
Responsible for forecasting & costing events for labor, food cost and sales
Responsible for the annual financial planning process for Catering & Events
Responsible for invoicing, accounts receivable and processing payments
Responds to all inquiries including phone, email, online ordering, and in-person
Works closely with Business Manager for all payroll and finance related tasks
Sends and responds to follow up letters, surveys and emails to guests after events
Organizes and maintains all catering service equipment, linens and facilitates ?.
Is timely and accurate in completing all assigned responsibilities and training requirements
Maintains and creates efficient and effective systems to ensure Guests receive both great food and great service
Develops a successful working partnership and ensures effective communication between the Catering Production and Events departments, the Roadhouse Management Team and other Zingerman’s businesses
Supports Catering Production, Delivery and Event Managers & Staff as needed


Creates flight plans, floor plans and timelines for events.
Works with Front of House managers to ensure all events are staffed appropriately
Works with Chefs to create/plan event menus, including costing/pricing and design
Under direction of Head Chef, assists with developing new catering and events menu items, and documents recipes and procedures in alignment with the Roadhouse culinary vision as needed
Assists with event ordering and catering production needs
Communicates menu details and changes effectively with catering team and chefs.
Gives exceptional internal and external service to staff and guests
Responsible for the timing of deliveries, set-up and tear-down of events
Places and manages external rental orders for events when necessary.
Executes the event according to the specifications and is an active presence during the event.
Ensures service staff meet and exceed guest expectations.
Manages event staff during events including coaching, providing feedback, disciplinary actions, and work direction
Responsible for the distribution of tips to event staff


Assists in managing restaurant operations when necessary
Attends Zingerman’s training, events and meetings
May teach an internal class (required after 2 years of employment)
May participate on a committee or workgroup


A minimum of 3-5 years experience working in the food service industry (preferably with experience in the catering and event industry)
Previous experience in catering preparations and menu planning desirable
2 or more years experience in a restaurant leadership role
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Has a reputation for excellent relations with guests, front and back of house staff
Excellent computer skills including Gmail, Google Docs, Google Sheets
Familiarity with Indesign software preferred
Experience with restaurant point of sale and reservation programs (preferably Digital Dining, Reserve/Resy or Open Table) or other food service software a plus
Experience developing and maintaining operational systems and procedures
Must have a valid driver’s license with a good driving record
Must have reliable transportation to and from events, including making deliveries as needed

Must be able to balance and carry a tray with drinks and/or dishes.
Must be able to work in varied weather conditions
Able to ascend/descend between basement and main floor of the Roadhouse
