Start date is negotiable with the latest date being July 1, 2022.
Our Vision and Mission
Leaders of color, and their white co-conspirators, lead their schools and organizations as their authentic, liberated selves and develop team members who collectively create and maintain antiracist learning cultures where everyone thrives. We accomplish this through individual coaching and group facilitation, where we create and hold space for leaders – especially leaders of color – to heal from racism while developing skills to identify and interrupt racism within their personal leadership as well as the practices and policies of the organizations they lead, and produce antiracist solutions in partnership with the community.
Our Core Program
The Antiracist Collective is a space for Oakland’s principals of color to empathize and leverage strategies to heal from racism while building partnerships with their supervisors and Instructional Leadership Teams as they learn technical and adaptive skills to be antiracist literacy leaders. We launched The Antiracist Collective in the
Fall of 2019 and have welcomed a new cohort each year while extending the program for the inaugural cohort.
As the first cohort completes the three year program this spring, they have transformed their personal leadership and are leading their Instructional Leadership Teams and schools to create antiracist learning cultures.
Our Impact
We are proud of our impact for leaders and what that means for their students. The best way to learn about our impact is to hear directly from leaders.
Our Team
Our staff and board of directors collaborate as Leadership for Liberation’s team to create an antiracist learning culture within our organization. We work individually and collectively to:
identify and interrupt internalized racism in our personal leadership, our collective practices and organizational policies,
develop and grow as leaders, facilitators and coaches,
contribute to the overall growth and continuous improvement of the organization.
You & Your Legacy
As the Liberated Leadership and Literacy Coach, you will:
collaborate with the founder of the program and a program alumnus now serving as the Senior Liberated Leadership and Literacy Coach to ensure the curriculum fully integrates antiracist leadership development with literacy leadership development in order to develop principals as antiracist literacy leaders as well as ensure our curriculum is aligned to the requirements for clearing an administrative credential.
coach principals 1:1; observe key structures that drive student learning such as ILT meetings, PLCs, and teaching to provide concrete and actionable feedback that will support principals to improve student literacy outcomes.
track student outcomes, analyze the data and ensure student literacy data is driving leadership decisions through 1:1 coaching and creating opportunities for peers to give and receive feedback during cohort sessions.
use observations and experiences from coaching to co-facilitate professional learning spaces for the cohort and ensure we meet programmatic goals, ideally for 3 years.
facilitate racial affinity groups for Collective members who share your racial affinity.
The Liberated Leadership and Literacy Coach is someone who:
was a principal of a school that had high achievement or growth in student literacy outcomes,
used technical and adaptive leadership skills as well as a racial equity lens to facilitate effective professional development and coach teachers to improve student literacy outcomes and experience, and
regularly reflects on their racial identity and continually improves as a leader.
Our early outcomes are strong, and we have yet to reach our vision of creating antiracist learning cultures across Oakland’s schools – and ultimately everywhere. As we codify and grow our program, this is an unique opportunity for you to use your knowledge and skills to ensure Leadership for Liberation establishes a strong foundation while partnering with amazing principals, supervisors and staff to ensure schools are antiracist communities that truly thrive. We are excited to welcome a new team member who is ready for the challenge of leading the deep antiracist work required for our schools to have sustainable non racialized student outcomes.
